Long before taste and smell report in, color has already set an expectation - is this ripe or rotten, cooked or raw, sweet or sour? - and the brain folds that expectation into the final experience. The missing blue

Try to name a naturally blue food. Blueberries (really purple), a few blue corn and potato varieties - and that's nearly it. Plot common foods by hue and they crowd into the reds, oranges, yellows, and greens, leaving a conspicuous gap across the blues. We never learned to crave blue food because there was almost none to crave - which is why blue is famous as an appetite suppressant.
