WCAG 2.2 86 success criteria · W3C Recommendation

WCAG 2.2 is the current version. It kept all of 2.1, added nine success criteria and removed 4.1.1 Parsing as obsolete. W3C published it on 5 October 2023 and republished it with corrections on 12 December 2024. ISO adopted it as ISO/IEC 40500:2025, and the 2026 edition of EN 301 549 uses it.

Conformance

What conformance means

A page conforms at a level when it meets every criterion at that level and below, and these five requirements hold.

WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 add that each responsive layout of a page counts as part of the page.

  1. Level

Every criterion at the chosen level and the levels below it is met, or a conforming alternate version is offered.

  2. Full pages

Conformance covers whole pages: a page cannot conform while leaving a part of it out.

  3. Complete processes

When a page is one step of a process, such as a checkout, every step conforms.

  4. Accessibility-supported ways only

The ways content meets the criteria must work with assistive technology and browsers people use.

  5. Non-interference

Anything that is not accessibility-supported must not block the rest of the page; 1.4.2, 2.1.2, 2.2.2 and 2.3.1 apply to everything on it.

Editions

Editions and standards

Content that meets WCAG 2.2 also meets 2.1 and 2.0, except that an audit against those versions may still test 4.1.1.
